Tullamore people respond to Tri-AURA-thon challenge at Aura

News released: 20th March 2009

Fitness enthusiasts and triathletes in Tullamore have responded strongly to a special ‘Tri-AURA-thon’ indoor triathlon gym challenge, which is scheduled to take place at Aura Tullamore on Sunday, April 19th.

The new event is aimed at those people competing in the ‘triAthlone’ triathlon in mid-July, but it is also suitable to men and women of all ages and fitness levels, who are interested in a fresh individual or team fitness challenge.

“A lot of people who come to our centre will be taking part in ‘triAthlone’ this year. Some of them approached our fitness instructors recently and asked them could they put a fitness programme in place that would help them prepare for the event,” explained Dorothy Costello, Aura Western Regional Manager.

“We have all different levels of fitness here at Aura so while our indoor triathlon will give serious athletes the chance to prepare properly for the outdoor event, it will also give those people who are not so fit the opportunity to take part, get in shape and have some fun at the same time.”

‘Tri-AURA-thon’ will consist of 12 lengths of Aura’s 25-metre swimming pool, 20km on the bike and 5km on the treadmill, which are exactly the same distances that participants are required to complete in ‘triAthlone’ this year.

“To make it even more appealing to our members and our ‘Pay As You Go’ customers, we are inviting teams of three to enter the event. This will allow a team member to complete the swim, the cycle or the run, rather than all three disciplines.

“We have received a great response from both members and customers and several teams have been formed and are in training. Everyone is looking forward to it and there is a friendly rivalry building up already,” added Dorothy.

“As an added incentive, we will be awarding a number of prizes both to the individual and the team winners on the evening of the event, once all the times have been tallied.”

Those interested in competing in ‘Tri-AURA-thon’ either individually, or as part of a team, can sign up now at Aura Tullamore reception for a personalised training programme which will help them to get in shape for the event.

Meanwhile, local school children are continuing to enrol for Aura Tullamore’s Easter Fitness Fun Camp, which is scheduled to take place over five days from Monday, April 14th to Friday, April 17th.

Daily activities in the ‘Easter Fitness Fun Camps’ include a dance class, snorkelling, water volleyball, mini-Olympics, Aura swim relay, rounders and an egg hunt on the Friday. The camps take place from 10.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and cost €64, or €57.50 for Aura members.
