Jonah’s tribute to Mum wins first prize in Mother’s Day competition at Aura Leitrim

News released: 27th March 2009

Photo of mothers day winners at Aura LeitrimNine-year old Jonah is the toast of the Tighe household in Boyle, Co. Roscommon this week after he won himself and his mum a year’s free membership to Aura Leitrim by coming first in a Mother’s Day competition that was held recently at the leisure centre.

His mum Sharon was especially pleased as Jonah also earned her a free beauty treatment including a facial, back massage and express manicure from ‘Enhance Health and Beauty’ in Leitrim as part of the prize.

Aura decided to hold the competition to celebrate Mother’s Day and also in recognition of all the mums who regularly use the centre for Aqua, Pilates, Yoga and various other fitness classes and courses.

Aura invited children to tell them why their mother is ‘The Best Mum in the World’ in 20 words or less. Jonah came first for his tribute, which said that, ‘no-one has a mum like ours. She can cook any dish, swim like a fish, she must have magic powers’.

“We were inundated with entries in the lead-up to Mother’s Day from children who are members and those who were visiting us with the parents as ‘Pay As You Go’ customers. The standard was very high, but we decided that Jonah’s entry was a deserving winner,” said Siobhan O’Flaherty, Operations Manager at Aura Leitrim Leisure Centre.

“Sharon and Jonah were delighted with their prize as Sharon visits the centre regularly for fitness classes and they are both regular users of our swimming pools. Now they can enjoy all of our facilities for free,” added Siobhan.

There was a great response to Aura Leitrim’s recently held ‘Fitness week’ which was designed to help people discover their health and fitness needs by running seven days of fitness advice, activities, free evening classes and gym challenges.

The centre has announced the winners of the gym challenges, which were held on the treadmill, spin bikes and rowers in three different categories to suit people of all ages and fitness levels.

The winner of the ‘Bronze’ category was ‘Pay As You Go’ customer Nicholas Leonard; the ‘Silver’ category winner was Breege Dufficy from Carrick-on-Shannon and Siofra O'Connor, also from Carrick, finished up with the best time in the ‘Gold’ category.

There was also a free draw for the ‘Ultimate Fitness Package’, which was won by ‘Pay As You Go’ customer Lorna Kennedy. Lorna’s prize includes one month’s free membership to Aura Leitrim and a personal training programme designed by one of Aura’s fully-qualified fitness instructors.

Meanwhile, local school children are continuing to enrol for Aura Leitrim’s ‘Easter Fitness Camps’. The camps have something for children of all ages and abilities, including ‘Intensive Swim Sessions’, ‘Rookie-Lifeguard Camp’ and ‘Kids Fun Camp’, all of which will take place over four days from Tuesday, April 14th to Friday, April 17th.

People looking for further information on the ‘Easter Fitness Camps’ can contact reception on 071-9671771.
