Aura Leitrim host fun run for Irish Cancer Society

News released: 7th Aug 2009

Anticipation is rising in Leitrim as people from all over the county get ready to play their part in the 10km fun run for the Irish Cancer society which is being hosted by Aura Leitrim Leisure Centre this Sunday, August 16th.

Staff and management at the leisure centre are rolling up their sleeves and preparing for the big day following a huge response from people interested in taking to the road this Sunday to raise some money for the Irish Cancer society.

The 10km run will begin and end at the Aura Leitrim Leisure Centre who is also hosting the post race reception where the winners of both the male and female category will be presented with specially designed trophies. Aura will also be providing free showering and changing facilitates and serving light refreshments after the event.

“The response that we are receiving from the people of Leitrim is great. Everyone is really getting involved and supporting the fundraiser. People from all over the area have already committed to take part and support this fundraising drive,” said Siobhan O’ Flaherty, Operations Manager at Aura Leitrim Leisure Centre.

“Our objective is to make as much money as we can for this important cause, but we want to make the day as enjoyable as possible for all involved. The support of the people of the town, along with our staff, gym members and keep-fit enthusiasts is sure to make it a fun and successful day for all on Sunday,” added Siobhan.

“The day itself is really geared towards having fun and the run is open for everyone to participate in. We are encouraging all couch potatoes to get out on Sunday morning and take to the roads for this very important cause,” explained Chris Callaghan, the local organiser of the event.

Aura is reminding people that registration for the run takes place at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning. The race starts at 11 a.m. sharp and the entry fee is just €10 with all of the money going towards the Irish Cancer Society.

Aura is also reminding parents that they are still taking enrolments for the next course of their Swim Academy. The ‘Aura Swim Academy’ suits children of all standards as each child who enrols on the course is assessed on their first day and assigned to a class which reflects their ability instead of their age.

Aura’s experienced instructors will be on hand to guide each child through the basics of swimming and improve their skills through a programme of gradual progression and motivation.

Classes take place on Monday and Wednesdays from 3.30 p.m. to 5.15 p.m. and on Fridays from 4.10 p.m. to 5.45 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aura ‘Swim Academy’ costs €73 for the 10-week session. Aura members will receive a 10% discount.
