Letterkenny people triumph in Triathlon challenge at Aura

Letterkenny families and fitness enthusiasts turned out in full force last week to take part in Aura Letterkenny Leisure Complex’s ‘Mini Triathlon’ and ‘Children’s Mini Triathlon’.

The Triathlons which took place on Sunday, 13th December saw competitors take to the pool, bikes and treadmills to compete in this years fitness challenge.

“The adult Triathlon which was made up of three different events, a 3 mile run, a 10km cycle and a 100 metre swim allowed people of all abilities and fitness levels to take part, explained Patricia Coyle, Operations Manager at Aura Letterkenny Leisure Complex.

“Youngsters were also included on the day with a special ‘Children’s Mini Triathlon’ which catered for the under 16s. This was made up of three different events, a 1km run, a 3km cycle and a 100 metre swim,” added Patricia.

The winner of the men’s competition Jason King performed impressively with an excellent time of 40 minutes 16 seconds.

The female competitors were just as successful with the best time going to Eileen Mc Laughlin who finished in 43 minutes and 55 seconds.

“Overall the day was a great success. The fact that it was open to everyone really helped get more people involved. Some people put in months of training to prepare for it. It was a great way to motivate and encourage people to work out,” added Patricia.

“Some of our own staff also joined in the challenge which helped create a great sense of atmosphere and a friendly rivalry. It was a great way to show people that you can work out and have fun at the same time,” added Patricia.

“We also decided to make the event suitable for children as we felt this was a great way of encouraging families to spend time together which is especially important round this time of year,” explained Patricia.
