Dundalk people respond to Triathlon challenge at Aura
News released: 27th November 2010
Fitness enthusiasts and triathletes in Dundalk have responded strongly to a special ‘Mini Triathlon’ gym challenge, which is scheduled to take place at Aura Dundalk Leisure Centre over the next few days.
The Triathlon is suitable for men and women of all ages and fitness levels who are interested in a fresh individual fitness challenge. The event will be split into three days allowing people to compete on Saturday, 5th December, Wednesday 9th December and Thursday 10th December.
“The focus of the Triathlon is to really get people motivated and enthusiastic about working out. It is open to everyone regardless of what their fitness ability is. It is an ideal way to get fit and shape up before the festive season,” explained Sarah Byrne, Operations Manager at Aura Dundalk Leisure Centre.
“We all have different levels of fitness here at Aura so while our indoor triathlon will give serious athletes the chance to prepare properly for a similar outdoor event that they might be targeting, it will also give those people who are not so fit the opportunity to take part, get in shape and have some fun at the same time,” added Sarah.
“The ‘Mini Triathlon’ is made up of three different events, a 3km run, an 8km cycle and a 100 metre swim and as an added incentive, we will be awarding prizes to the fastest participants after the event, once all the times have been tallied,” added Sarah.
“We have received a great response from both members and customers and everyone is looking forward to it, even some of the Aura staff are participating and there is a friendly rivalry building up already,” added Sarah.
Aura is still taking names for the triathlon. There is no entry fee and those who sign up will get the opportunity to meet with Aura’s fully-qualified fitness instructors, where they will receive nutritional advice, exercises and specific triathlon training programmes.
Aura is also reminding parents that they are still taking enrolments for the next course of its popular ‘Swim Academy’ which gets underway in the next few weeks.
“The Aura ‘Swim Academy’ classes are suitable for children of all ages and all abilities. Each child is assessed at the beginning of the course and is put into a class that reflects their ability rather than their age so that they are learning alongside children of the same standard. We feel this is the best way to teach children as it allows them the opportunity to progress at their own pace,” explained Sarah.
Enrolment in the Aura ‘Swim Academy’ costs €73 for the ten weeks and includes a free skills assessment. Early booking is advised to avoid disappointment and a 10% discount applies for Aura members.
